Blood in the urine
Visible or microscopic, painful or painless. Painless visible blood warrants assessment even if it happens only once.
What it may meanSevere one-sided flank pain
Especially with fever, vomiting or reduced urine output — an obstructed, infected kidney is a same-day emergency.
What it may meanInability to pass urine
Complete retention needs immediate catheterisation. Repeated near-retention needs assessment before it becomes complete.
What it may meanFalling kidney function
A rising creatinine or falling eGFR should trigger a conversation about transplant options well before dialysis becomes urgent.
What it may meanSymptoms after previous surgery
Recurrent stricture, persistent leak, or a fistula already repaired once — redo work is planned differently from a first attempt.

Incontinence is common but not something to accept. Most cases improve substantially with the right assessment and treatment.
